Review: Rimmel Sculpting Kit by Kate Moss

I love a good “multiple-in-1” product. So when Rimmel London brought out their new sculpting kit I was eager to try it out. It’s supposed to contain everything to sculpt your face, meaning there’s a blush, highlighter and contour/shading powder in it.

I have to say I love the design of the palette. It is rectangular with a plastic see through lid. The accents are rose gold, which give it a nice fancy feel.

I bought the palette in 001, golden sands. Which is supposed to be for the lighter skinned gals among us. On the left you see a light but slightly warm coloured highlighter. It has a bit of a pearly look to it and it shimmers, as a highlighter should, because you want it to reflect the light. In the middle is the shading powder. I noticed it has glitter in it, which surprised me, since it should bring depth into your face. So you would think you don’t want anything it in to reflect light, like glitter does. On the right is the blusher. It is a pale pink with shimmer in it.

The pigmentation is alright, but nothing special. However when I tried swatching on my lower arm, the highlighter is barely visible. The texture is nice and soft.

I then tried applying it to my face. On the left you can see my face with just foundation and powder, on the right is where I applied the sculpting kit.

I have to say I’m a bit disappointed. The only thing that’s visible is the blush, which I do love. Even though I applied multiple layers of the highlighter, it just isn’t very visible and only gives a very subtle glow. The shading powder is very warm in colour. You can see a little of the effect under my cheekbones, but I also applied a little to my temples, on the sides of my nose and on the bottom of my chin, but this isn’t really visible. Because of the glitter I won’t apply a lot of it on these areas because then the glitter would catch too much of the attention. Beneath my cheekbones I really had to layer it, but I’m not really liking the effect.

The blush is the main reason why I might buy this product again. I might use the shading powder as a bronzer, which is not it’s intended use, but still works fine, but it just isn’t fit for creating shadow on your face. Maybe if it didn’t have glitter in it, but even then, it’s still a bit too warm a colour for me. The highlighter is barely visible, even though I really like a subtle highlighter, this is just not working for me.

Either way, I still used this to create my look for the day, by putting on some nude eyeshadow, mascara and a bold purple lipstick.rimmel london kate moss sculpting kit full look purple lipstick

Summarised: I love the blush, might use the shading colour as a bronzer, but the highlighter will probably be replaced by a more prominent one.

Have you tried this one? Did it work for you? Or can you recommend another sculpting kit for me to try?
